But that doesnt mean that you should accept those feelings of dread that accompany even the thought of going to work. You dont have to stay at a job you hate, and you may not even have to switch jobs to stop working at a job you really cant stand. These steps may help you find greater satisfaction at your current job. Identify Whats Causing Your Job Dissatisfaction First, try gaining a better understanding of whats behind that I hate my job feeling. Different people find different things they hate about their jobs, but often what people dislike most about their work overlaps with the issues that contribute to job burnout. Mismatch of Skills If youre overqualified, you may feel bored. If the expectations of you are too high, you may feel overwhelmed. Either way, these feelings can create significant stress. Low Control People need to feel that they have some control over their lives in general, and this certainly applies to jobs. If you feel you cant control what happens to you at your job, you may find that things feel more stressful. Having even a small sense of control can change how you feel about normal, everyday stressors. High Pressure Are there heavy consequences if you make a mistake? People often think that working long hours is the big contributor to burnout, but working in a high-pressure environment can really add to the stress. Low Recognition Are you recognized for your achievements? Are you adequately rewarded for your hard work? If not, it generally becomes difficult to stay motivated. We all need to feel that our work matters. How to Deal With Dissatisfaction Sometimes the best solution is simply to find a new job. But quitting may not be your best optionâ€"at least not right away. Whether your goal is to stay at your job long-term or just long enough to find other employment, making an effort to reduce stress and increase your overall satisfaction can go a long way. Play to Your Strengths To enjoy your job, you should be challenged just the right amountâ€"not too much, and not too little. Furthermore, its best to be challenged in the areas in which you are strong and at which you naturally excel.  Talk to your employer about adjusting your responsibilities to match your strengths. Offer to take on new challenges that can help the companyâ€"things you naturally enjoy and do wellâ€"and see if the areas that are overly stressful might be better managed by someone else who excels in that area. Give some thought to what might make your job better, and see if you can get permission from your manager to tweak your work situation and responsibilities. Keep in mind that while you might not get everything you ask for, the worst they can say is no. Look Beyond the Office for Rewarding Experiences If you just cant seem to find anything at work that makes you feel content and fulfilled, look outside the office for some fun and diversion. Sign up to be a volunteer for a cause you believe in, enroll in a course with a friend, or plan some weekend excursions to visit friends you dont normally get to see. Remember: Theres more to life than what goes on at your workplace. Start Your Day off Right A mindful morning routine can do wonders for starting your day off on the right foot. Do your best to get a good nights sleep before starting your day with a practice or activity you look forward to. Dedicate some time in your morning just for you. Do you enjoy reading the news after getting out of bed? Would a 10-minute meditation give you peace of mind to start your day? Or maybe listening to a good podcast during your commute would help you walk into the office with less dread. Remember the Rewards When things get difficult, remind yourself of why youre doing this in the first place. Keep your eyes on the prize and try to remember the rewards you find or used to find in your work. If youre having a difficult time, see if you can add a few extra rewards for yourselfâ€"give yourself a treat at the end of the day as a reward for hard work. Rewards can be as simple as treating yourself to a favorite meal to allowing yourself time to do something you enjoy to spending an evening with friends.   Laugh About It Finding the humor in your situation can turn stressors into stress relieversâ€"or at least it can rob them of their stress-inducing power. While quick stress relievers can be an excellent first line of defense against the effects of chronic stress. They can help you turn off your bodys stress response and allow you to face your work from a calm and more relaxed place. Maintaining a sense of humor and laughing can help you relieve stress and stay healthier. Laughter reduces the level of stress hormones like  cortisol,  epinephrine  (adrenaline),  dopamine, and growth hormone and increases the level of health-enhancing hormones, like endorphins. Laughter also increases the number of antibody-producing cells we have working for us and enhances the effectiveness of T cellsâ€"all of which makes for a stronger immune system. Laughter also connects people, and  social support  is good for stress relief. So go to a hilarious movie or a comedy club with friends, check out a humorous TV show, or plan a game night with friends who are practically guaranteed to make you chuckle. Practice Stress Management If you can relieve general stress, youll likely feel less overwhelmed by specific stressors at your job. Resolve to find a form of exercise you love, whether its biking around town with friends or horsing around at the ice skating rink. (No, you dont have to resort to a boring exercise bike at the gym to reap the stress-relieving benefit of exercise!) Learn how to meditate and do so on a regular basis. There are a variety of apps that you can get on your phone that make squeezing in meditation even easier. Learn to practice deep breathing, which you can do right at your desk when you feel like one big stress ball. Get Support Be sure you have support in your life. See if you can organize a supportive network of co-workers to commiserate and congratulate each other on the trials and triumphs of the job. Or create a group among your friends outside of work. These groups can work wonders for your mood! Decide in advance if you want these groups to be informational, in which case you will want to host a speaker at each meeting, or simply a forum for sharing experiences. Finally, if you feel overwhelmed and unable to cope, talk to a professionalâ€"you dont have to handle an overwhelming situation alone.

The analytical skills, which I have learnt during my professional practice, aided me in enhancing my conceptual thinking and more significantly creativity and teamwork skills. Developing the presentation for this conference helped me in analysing the significance of schedules and time-effectiveness without any considerable compromise on quality. Throughout the group work, I have learnt how to tactically negotiate the most productive conditions for myself, work closely with my friends, take charge, introduce useful concepts and develop effective presentation. Besides, the co-operation amongst the group members enabled me to increase my learning experience with a successful achievement of desired outcomes. At each stage of the work, I became familiarised with the chosen subject, content and other conflicting issues. Though conflicts arose in our work, we had realised the minimal importance of such constraints, and moved ahead in a smoother and more effective manner. Presence of small g roups (like that which was present for this conference) allowed the quieter members to gain involvement with considerable importance given to his or her ideas and opinions. Group work allowed me to understand the functioning ways pertaining to team settings. The open nature of group work assisted me in valuing and sharing previous experiences with others, discovering my true potential, technology restructuring and waste management (Burns and Sinfield, 2008). Apart from these formal skills, my previous experiences with group work have also offered me with valuable insights. The knowledge gained from most of my group discussion sessions has allowed me to work in a team setting with different roles. My role in this group work conference influenced my team members in planning, prioritising and managing time. The open nature of classes, values of my own personal experiences, and delegation of less critical responsibilities alongside the trading and sharing of notes with fellow colleagues enabled me to exhibit how much we all have to learn from one another. My contribution to the topic of emotional and psychological well-being deciphered me with some of the phraseology and undermined my limitations. Inter-disciplinary working practice is the discipline involving the working of individuals from two or more professions functioning as a team with a common purpose, commitment, mutual respect and goals. This practice enabled us in attaining effective team work, an ability to improve the working environment, enhance mutual respect and share knowledge between different fields. However, the numerous practice based issues linked to unrealistic expectations, lack of knowledge, perceived threat, professional jealousies, and impaired autonomy can result in a variety of serious consequences (Miller and Freeman, 2001). Effective leadership skills gained through the practice sessions helped me in minimising the incidence and prevalence of team conflicts. Writing down notes, trying to be silent and careful listening on the ideas provided by others, helped me in gaining enough information to deal with the issues. The knowledge gained through the group work and professional experience helped me i n liaising with other health care professionals, attending court sessions, multi-disciplinary meetings, one to one key work sessions and advocating of beliefs. Throughout the conference, I strictly confined myself to the guidelines indicated in the social worker’s care plan and this assisted me in supervising contacts of children and home care centres. Regardless of numerous constraints witnessed in carrying out the group work, I highly value the skills and lessons learnt and would suggest the experience to anyone, who desires to expand their abilities, especially within the field of child care (Bolton, 2010). Effective planning of activities and objectives, which need to be performed at each stage, enabled me to complete the work before the deadline. I ascertained the strengths and abilities of my team members, their roles and demands for the team environment (Bolton, 2010) in a step by step manner. This soothing and relaxing experience allowed me to reach the expectations of my higher officials with a decision to consider negative as well as positive consequences (Burns and Sinfield, 2008). I thought about alternate ways of handling the group work which enabled me to retain the understanding of the importance of communication, compassion, fundamental social work practice skills and group work abilities of interacting with childre n, when they are anxious and scared. Eventually, I became more aware of my communication skills and their effectiveness, together with the ways in which I could improve. I perceive that, my contribution to the group in suggesting ideas and examples may be needed in improving myself in a conceptual and critical manner. I became more aware of my communication skills and their effectiveness, together with exploring a variety of ways for personal development. This reflection process enabled me to look within myself, gave an immense improvement of my own social work skills and patient observations as well as my delivery of care and support. In my own perspective, it can be considered as an effective exercise, which helped in understanding the ways of how to treat patients who need such care and support. For me, implementing these kinds of group work projects can enable students to increase their learning experience and participation. I think making a successful presentation necessitates an enhanced awareness on technologies, subject as well as skills (Bolton, 2010). I perceive myself to be a stronger person developing confidence. I ensure that I confront my fears and anxious feelings against certain individuals, in the defence of team members and treated individuals. An open body language, eye contact, voice tone and other abilities, as aforementioned with this paper are of much importance (Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2002). Developing such qualities has enabled me as a social care professional to enhance the feelings of care, identification, empathy and support. I feel that, genuineness when supported with an open and relaxed method of accepting client requests can enable us to work according to the best interests of patients (Cooley, 2000). Although, listening, clarification and empathy, improving the emotional and psychological well-being of patients are key counselling skills needed in delivering care, I feel that the presence of good communication skills are an invaluable asset as it minimizes the degrees of hopelessness and psychological distress (Fallowfield and Jenkins, 2009). I think it is a highly rewarding and reflecti ng incident, which enabled me to identify my self-weaknesses and turning them in to strengths. Use of different illustrations concerned to the experience, helped me in realising the fact that, learning and knowledge development is something which I should be pro-active in. Reflective experience assisted in structuring my thoughts and feelings in an appropriate manner with level of knowledge concerning to evidence based practice and medicine (Alexander et al., 1999). I believe this is a crucial segment to allow the group in offering a well-structured analysis with a chance of gaining experience (Burns and Sinfield, 2008). Group work, an excellent illustration for any enhancing any form of career, may continuously help me in developing my future. From my point of view, group work enables one to utilise time effectively for student production, alongside offering control as well as res ponsibility for learning practice (Carson, 2004). Furthermore, I have recognised reflection as a key tool of practice, necessary for gaining skills and abilities. The strategies and approaches developed by different scientists (such as Parkes, William, and Colmer) appeared to be highly useful in assessing the psychological impact of family member loss, even though each person reacts to the situation differently. I feel that, implementing the projects accomplished through group or team work at the university will assist everyone, in the future with an allowance of developing practical, conceptual and cognitive knowledge towards unseen horizons. Personal experiences and individual views on society play a major role in our interpretation of social justice issues. A person’s take on a particular issue may vary but the overall idea of social justice stays the same. Social justice is concerned with equal rights, in all aspects of society. The poorest to the wealthiest people in the world should all have equal opportunities. What they make of the opportunities given is a completely different story, but they still need to be readily available. Education and healthcare are just two examples of services that we as people should all have equal access to. Race, class, gender, religion, socio-economic status, sexual orientation and geography should never be a reason why a person’s human rights are violated nor be a reason for advantage gain or an increase in opportunity availability. Rather than dealing with one of the more obvious social justice issues like injustices in the education system or lack of healthcare in low income neighborhoods, I am going to be discussing a social injustice that has plagued our society from the time of slavery, throughout the industrial revolution, all the way up until now. Throughout the history of capitalism, there has always been some form of black labor exploitation that has enabled the white man to make gains by violating the human rights of others. Without the exploitation of black people, capitalism and the United States economy would not be what it is today. Just as black labor exploitation helped shaped the United States economy, it also helped to shape black gender roles, stereotypes, elationships between black men and women, and also relationships between blacks and whites. The origins of black labor exploitation in the United States of America started with colonial slavery during the seventeenth century. Africans were taken from their homeland and brought to the â€Å"New World† to work as free laborers on plantations for white owners. The slavery taking place in the â₠¬Å"New World† was minute compared to the slavery-taking place in the Caribbean but for the purpose of this paper I am strictly going to speak about slavery in the continental US. Slavery was the ultimate violation of human rights. Not only were African slaves exploited for labor, they were sexually exploited, physically, mentally and emotionally abused and had absolutely no control over any aspect of their lives. Never mind worrying about education and healthcare, they had to worry about when their next meal would come as well as being beaten or even killed by their master. In the late eighteenth century the bill of rights were passed. None of the amendments in the original bill of rights included slaves, so according to the government, by law slaves had no rights. It wasn’t until the mid nineteenth century where slaves were freed on the accord of the emancipation proclamation. The thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth amendments were passed giving African Americans equal rights across the board in the eye of the law. White slavery enthusiast did not take this lightly and still did everything in their will power to exploit African American for labor purposes and continued to violate their human rights. Following the abolishment of slavery sharecropping jobs were the only jobs made available to black men as a result of the white man’s fear of job competition. White men were fearful that black men who were once slaves would take their jobs, and they would not be able to efficiently provide for their families. There were no benefits in working in sharecropping and no wages to be earned. The job would almost always lead to an ample amount of debt. Domestic service jobs were the only jobs available to black women, because white women would not take them. Because of the dynamics of the job market for blacks at this time, the women had to be the breadwinners. What whites thought to be the standard gender roles in regards to work could no longer be held in black households because the female was out working long hours and earning wages to take care of her family while the male stayed at home to take care of the house and kids. Gender norms underwent a shift in the black communities. Black men â€Å"wanted black women to conform to the gender norms set by white society. They wanted to be recognized as men, as patriarchs, by other men, including white men. Yet they could not assume the position if black women were not willing to conform to prevailing sexist gender norms. †Ã‚   Black women could not conform to gender norms because of white supremacist capitalist patriarchy’s refusal to allow black men access to employment. You can still see traces of this in black communities today with the mother being the head of the household. Black labor exploitation had a number of effects on the black community. During the civil rights era, black genders roles began to look more like white gender roles. Initially the black men were ok with their â€Å"unconventional† gender roles created by white society. Whites begin to critique black family structure and begin to question the black man’s masculinity. â€Å"White social critics looking at black life have continually emphasized the notion that black men were symbolically castrated because black women were often the primary breadwinners. †(P. 9) this takes a toll on the black man and he begins to become very self-conscious about his masculinity. As a result of this many black men go to fight in the military as a way to regain their patriarchal status. The exploitation of black labor effected black men involvement in the military. It was purposely done this way by whites. During the civil rights era â€Å"black men declared that they were connected to white men, brothers under the skin, bound by masculinity, by a shared allegiance to patriarchy. †(P14) With the civil rights movement black men began to become obsessed with the idea of patriarchal masculinity. It was at this point where black men started to move the blame from white men to black women. Here is where black gender roles began to look more like white gender roles. Prior to WWI whites always had a fear of competition with black workers and blacks gaining political power. During World War I, many white American men went off to fight in the war leaving a large opening in the industrial job market for black men. Black men began moving to the north and working in factories for low wages. Black men now had the ability to earn wages and become the breadwinners. In Harold Baron’s  Demand for Black Labor, â€Å"this new demand for black workers was set in motion three key developments: first, the dispersion of black people out of the South into Northern urban centers; second, the formation of a distinct black proletariat in the urban centers at the very heart of the corporate-capitalist process of production; third, the break up tenancy agriculture in the south. †Ã‚   The black proletariat class spoke about in this quote had access to patriarchal masculinity that no blacks before them had access to. They finally had the ability and resources to partake in the patriarchal masculinity that white men had been accustomed to since the beginning of America’s existence. At these factory jobs the black workers had no say in what was going on and could not complain about the horrendous conditions they were working in. Even after they had made some progress in reference to labor and jobs, they were still being exploited. I read about a concept call the â€Å"psychological wage† which is what I have come to understand as the psychological satisfaction provided by the owning class to white workers that enables this owning class to pay low wages. To white workers the psychological wage was more important to than the actual monetary wage because to them blacks being inferior and not being able to compete with them was a lot more important than the actual monetary wages they were earning. They would rather take a pay cut than work with someone black. The fear the white working class had of job competition with blacks, helped shape a number of black stereotypes such as the black male rapist and promiscuous black women. After slavery was abolished as a result of fear of job competition and blacks development of political power, white men began lynching black men. To disguise the real reason why they were lynching these men, white men used the excuse that black men were uncontrollable sexual deviants who were going around raping white women. On the other hand white men were going around raping black women just as they did during slavery. Black women tried to complain but the myth of black women being promiscuous enabled these rapes to be swept under the rug. The white man’s justification for raping black women was, how could someone be raped if all they do is want to have sex all the time? It was not considered rape because it was said that the black women wanted t. Black women who worked in domestics were subject to sexual harassment and rape by the males of the white families they were working for. You can see how the labor exploitation of black people led to a number stereotypes and misconceptions produced by white southerners. Some of these stereotypes are still prevalent in today’s society and black people are looked down up on because of them. Deindustrialization started occurring around the 1950’s and it left black men jobless, and again taking away the ability to participate in patriarchal masculinity. Exploitation of black labor has been the backbone of American capitalism and our economy since the beginning of the countries existence and now all of a sudden black labor is no longer needed. Factories were closing down and you begin to see the development of the urban crisis. With the development of the urban crisis, the unemployment rate being sky high and Ronald Regan coming into office, the conditions in which black people lived were only getting worse and social injustices becoming stronger. In Jeff Chang’s Cant Stop Wont Stop: A History of the Hip-Hop Generation  it stated, â€Å"Regan’s recession had bloated unemployment levels to the highest since the Great Depression-30 million searching for work. The official black unemployment rate hit 22 percent. Poverty rates were soaring to† (Chang 177). â€Å"It was much worse for young people. One estimate was that only 1 in 5 New York City teens had a job, only 1 in 10 African Americans, the lowest ratios of youth employment in the country† (Chang 178). The only light shinning from the darkness Regan and deindustrialization created was the development of hip-hop. The developments of hip hop in the late 1970’s to early 1980’s led to young black men having taken on a new identity. Black men now had a means to express themselves and the ability to earn money for something they enjoyed doing. It started off with graffiti, break dancing and DJ’s and as a result of the multiplier affects it spread to a number of different industries. Young black men found a way to assert themselves into their communities and in society on their own terms. The bigger hip-hop became, the more money they earned, and the more confident black men found themselves. As they began to earn money, they were once again able to have access to patriarchal  norms. Finally we begin to see something good come from the exploitation of black labor or lack there of. Since the arrival of the first slaves to America, black labor has been an essential key to capitalism and the development of the United States economy we see it today. Black exploitation is a major part of capitalism, and throughout history the exploitation of black workers took a number of different shapes. It started out with free labor during slavery, went to sharecropping jobs and domestic service jobs following the abolishment of slavery, black men being misled into fighting wars, black men being used to keep wages low, and even the working conditions blacks they had to deal with in industrial factories. It is sad that this is what it took for capitalist development to take place in the United States. This is a huge social injustice that has been going on for a very long time and will continue to go on unless we bring light to the history. The injustices black faced with regard to their involvement in capitalist development in the United States needs to be taught in all schools because this is a topic that sometimes goes untouched.
